McMaster University in Canada is one of the top 100 universities in the world. Its clinic health is ranked 36th in the world (Times Higher 2024).
The ALS clinical and research team at McMaster University is led by Dr. Turnbull. The team has been at the forefront, relentlessly pursuing research and treatment. More than thousands of ALS patients have received team treatment and care. The team needs more donations to purchase auxiliary medical equipment and rent them to patients free of charge; more donations are needed to accelerate ALS diagnosis and treatment research to benefit patients.

The team consists of the following three groups:

1 Medical Diagnosis and Treatment Group: Participate in many clinical new drug pilot studies (according to the requirements of clinical drug trials, select patients who meet the requirements to join), apply existing diagnostic technology to make clear diagnoses for patients, and apply the latest research progress to clinical practice.

2. Medical Auxiliary Care Group: Help patients and their families work together to fight the disease, help patients apply for various social benefits, and rent various auxiliary equipment to patients, so that patients and their families can deeply feel the care of society.

3 Basic Medical Research Group: Starting from genes, cells, and animals, we follow the world’s basic research frontiers and conduct research. Although ALS is a “minor disease” with only a few thousand new cases in Canada every year and government research funding is very small, Thanks to the attention and donations from all walks of life over the years, the research team can continue to conduct research and make its own contribution to the fight against ALS.

The research team has conducted frontiers research in the following areas:

(1) Collaborative research on ALS specific diagnosis: Select specific DNA fragments from hundreds of millions of random DNA fragments that bind to patients' encephalomyelitis, special proteins or DNA in serum to make specific diagnostic kits for clinical use; early diagnosis and early treatment.

(2) Study how “Magic scissors” CRISPR cas9 to cut the DNA of specific ALS disease cells, and conduct mouse gene therapy experiments in the future.

(3) Study the pathogenesis of ALS and other treatments.

Thanks to the charitable contributions of many donors in the past, McMaster University's ALS treatment and research team can continue to research, care for, and treat ALS patients; we also hope that more philanthropists will pay attention and donate, so that in ALS Breakthroughs in disease research can be applied to other neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, etc.), allowing the senior to live healthy and dignified lives in the senior society.
